Love's True Essence

She had never known love like this before
Because she vowed she'd never open another door
And it didn't matter who knocked or called out
For previous loves left her in a drought
She constantly gave everything she had
But couldn't get in return which left her empty, hurt and sad
Yet still she'd tell herself, I'll try once again
Because I know he doesn't want a lover, yeah, this one wants a friend
But the curtains revealed what her heart had fully known
Another one to the curb, it's just another one gone
And so she grew tired of putting her heart on the line
And she vowed no more, never again, not this time
But he came into the picture and he was talking life
She knew this one was different because he represented the Christ
Still she wasn't sure, so she would just get to know him
After all, she didn't want to risk going out on that limb
So day in and day out they began to commune
And again she noticed that this one was in sync and in tune
With everything she had to say, he listened carefully
Soon she felt a connection that she didn't want inwardly
But daily her walls began to slowly come down
And she realized she was exposed and she didn't feel sound
Because she was scared and she wondered if he
Would see her as she was, then turn around and leave
But he stayed there and with his pillow of cloud from above
He wrapped her up and covered her insecurities with his love
He tucked in her doubts and kissed away her pain
He sheltered her from the storms and brought her out of the rain
He showed her the essence of how true love should be
And soon she surrendered because she realized this one thing
That the man who loved her was no longer in her dreams
For God brought forth someone saved and set apart
When He gave her "Him," the desire of her heart

I don't regret meeting my ex because before he allowed drugs to come in and take control of his life, he loved God and when he prayed, God always showed up.

This poem represents the man that I fell in love with and married and it also represents the man that God wants me with today.
